Well Testing
Successful well test contract start-up in Brunei during global pandemic
Customer challenges
  • With a significant increase in onshore and offshore exploration and development activity in recent years, Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) realised the need for a dedicated testing service provider contract to help them achieve the nations 'Brunei Vision 2035'
  • Identifying increasing requirements for Well Testing services, BSP realised the need to graduate from procuring 'ad-hoc' services to other contractual scopes of work; to entrusting the management of these operations to a reputable and technically-capable service company, under a bespoke Well Testing contract
  • As a part of their procedures for managing new contract start-ups; BSP communicated expectations and guidelines via a new "Milestone Zero" (MSZ) process they were implementing
  • The BSP MSZ provides a structure process flow, with clearly defined deliverables required for review and acceptance by BSP at key milestones
  • During implementation of the MSZ process, BSP also required immediate Well Test flow-back on a key ongoing operation, which presented unique challenges
  • As part of a barge-based Coiled Tubing clean-up project; deck space and platform loading limitations required complete equipment layout and interface management in the overall project planning and execution
Expro Excellence
  • Already a long-standing trusted provider of Wireline and Well Intervention services for BSP; Expro was awarded a three-five year well test contract in October 2019 for Surface and Subsurface Well Testing Services.  The scope of work under the contract includes the provision of: Well Testing, Fluid Sampling and Analysis, Drill Stem Tools (DST), Tubing Conveyed Perforation (TCP) and Subsea landing string services
  • With over 47 years' experience in managing Well Test exploration and development projects, and a global pool to draw from, Expro were able to quickly deploy the project planning resources and assets required to meet the quick start-up challenges faced for BSP in Brunei
Value to client
  • Expro were in place and prepared to perform clean-up operations immediately on the project; and were subsequently able to adapt to operational delays for the final execution by BSP - due to unforeseen effects of the COVID-19 global crisis
  • Our Team ultimately delivered a successful critical well test operation for BSP, while simultaneously fulfilling the MSZ process and introducing the first-ever Expro Brunei Well Test base to the Asia region - while dealing with the added challenges of travel restrictions, HSE controls and logistical delays presented by the global pandemic
