Expro’s 1,000 ton Drilling Spider stands up to challenging well conditions in Guyana
Customer challenges
  • A major operator in Guyana was challenged by demanding deepwater well conditions that caused damage to their drilling slips, requiring costly and time consuming repairs. The operator sought a solution that would be more durable in the challenging well conditions and would help reduce Red Zone exposure
Expro Excellence
  • The Expro 1,000 Ton Drilling Spider was selected to replace the previous drilling slips on three of the rigs. The Drilling Spider is an efficient tool that can be used for drilling and tripping operations as well as landing strings. It is designed to withstand the rough drilling conditions of deepwater wells and its high slip crush values make it a reliable choice for heavy landing strings
Value to client
  • The use of the Drilling Spider on the three rigs helped to reduce the need to change out equipment during drilling and tripping operations as well as reduce the number of personnel on the rig floor during connection operations. This helped to reduce Red Zone entries by the operator. The rugged design of the Drilling Spider also saved time and repair costs when compared to the drilling slips previously use
