Expro Excellence
Subsea Well Access
Expro enables considerable time savings on first venture into Intervention Riser System market
Customer challenges
  • Expro's client had the requirement for a subsea well access system to provide the well barriers during a subsea well abandonment campaign in West Africa
  • This abandonment campaign was to be carried out by a drill ship with a dual activity drill floor
  • Expro entered into the Intervention Riser (IRS) market, c/w overall controls package (SPS Xmas tree and IRS controls) to support our client by providing a complete integrated Intervention Riser and controls package
  • Expro provided project management, interface engineering and service personnel to deliver the full scope, which included a compact IRS, surface flow-head, umbilical's, topsides control equipment and IWOCS package under the one integrated project scope
Expro Excellence
  • Excellent integration of existing Expro subsea personnel into the offshore team, ensuring all existing safety and quality processes were followed
Value to client
  • The Expro compact Intervention Riser system allowed the client to retrieve the Xmas Tree to surface along with the IRS system, preventing an additional run to recover the XT, saving circa 24 hours rig time
  • Dual activity allowed the rig BOP to be deployed whilst the IRS was attached to the Xmas Tree carrying out the in-well abandonment work.  This allowed the BOP to be rapidly connected to the wellhead once the XT was unlocked, resulting in the XT being pulled off critical path as the final abandonment was being conducted via the rig BOP, saving approximately two days per well
  • IWOCS for Xmas Tree controls interfaced and provided under the same contract, negating the requirement for additional interfacing and 3rd party personnel
